Ladies, I feel you. This morning, I woke up feeling heavy, bloated and best described as “urghh”… After a full swing of intense feasting from one place to another and the goodies each host have to offer, I just want to press the reset button as I am feeling the tightness of my shorts. Before I continue ranting about my gains and fatigue, here’s how you and me can fight and minimise the damage we’ve done to ourselves this CNY.
#1 DRINK YOUR GREENS
If you want your smoothie to be healthy, keep the alkalizing greens dominant (60-80%). Know that these greens shouldn’t ever compromise the taste. Get them in, mask them with some low to medium GI fruit and a few delicious supplements, and both your belly and your palette remain satisfied. Why? Cos they help you “go”… to the bathroom. They are naturally alkaline and might help to put out any heaviness. While some of us have no desire to drink this early in the morning, you can try to kickstart your day with a fresh coconut to alkalise your body instead.
#2 EAT A HEALTHIER BREAKFAST
Sit yourself down to a healthy breakfast of your favourite home-made granola with milk or have some eggs and wholegrain bread in the morning. It definitely refreshes your body and improve your mood. This helps you to have an psychological effect of wanting to keep up to a healthy well-balanced diet for the next few days to reboot your system.
#3 HYDRATE YOURSELF
Staying hydrated helps to keep the excess appetite in check and it is also proven to deal with digestive issues. It boosts metabolism, reduce swelling and helps to flush out excessive sodium from the body. Not only, drinking lots of water moisturize you skin to keep it fresh, glowing and smooth. If you are someone who needs a little flavour in your water, try having green tea or lemon water or splurge on KUSMI detox tea for extra boost.
#4 CUT DOWN THE SUGAR
Excessive amount of sugar in our body causes it to be acidic which is also the main cause to breakouts, dullness and sluggish mood. After all those sweet desserts like pineapple tarts, bak kwa, love letters and kueh lapis, its time we figure the sugar level in our body. So when your body craves for sugar, opt for berries or green tea as an alternative to curb the cravings.
#5 SWEAT IT OUT
The only way to reduce weight and increase endorphins is by working out. So to counter the surplus we’ve accumulated this festive, opt to walk whenever possible, jog with a friend, go for a swim, climb the stairs or try the quick 7 min workout for 2 weeks! This will help to release the toxins, give you a happy boost that leaves you refreshed and satisfied.
